Description

The main purpose of our project is that democratic processes work well in schools, students are active in decision-making processes, creating a culture of democracy in the school and transferring it to social life. The most striking data on this subject are presented in the “Education for Democratic Citizenship” project of the Council of Europe (http://www.coe/int.edc, 2010). These researches show us that educational environments are generally teacher-centered, the use of technology is undertaken by the teacher, teachers have an authoritarian attitude, they do not have enough information about “children's right to participate” and this right is exercised. On the other hand, it is clear that the emergence of a democratic society will be ensured by the establishment and operation of democratic culture in schools. This can only be achieved with the active participation of students in this process.

Aims

The general aim of this project is to ensure that students have an understanding of democracy, especially in school processes, and to activate democracy as a value in social life. For this reason, students should be aware of democratic-anti-democratic practices by observing in-school decision-making processes and practices within the scope of “Child's Right to Participate”. In addition, it is aimed that students exhibit innovative ideas and lifestyles that transform democratic practices in both in-school and out-of-school environments. On the other hand, while doing this, they are expected to use technology in the context of digitalization and create a suitable environment for them to show their active participation in the democratization of in-school processes with the manifestos and avatars they produce.
